MANILA - Korean pop star and "Pinoy Boyband Superstar" judge Sandara Park and Thai heartthrob Mario Maurer are both beloved in the Philippines, so it's no wonder their photo together garnered hundreds of thousands of likes on Instagram, many from their Filipino fans.
It remains unclear, however, where and when the two met. Both Park and Maurer are ambassadors of a local clothing brand, which may explain how the meeting transpired.
Dubbed as the Philippines' "Pambansang Krungkrung," Park rose to fame in 2004, when she finished runner-up in the Kapamilya talent search "Star Circle Quest." After a string of film and TV projects, Park, however, decided to leave for Korea to pursue a showbiz career there. In 2009, she took on the name "Dara" as a member of 2NE1.
Maurer, on other hand, is popular in the Philippines for his roles in the hit rom-com "Crazy Little Thing Called Love," the horror-comedy "Pee Mak," and the gay-themed romance "Love of Siam." He also starred in Star Cinema's "Suddenly It's Magic" opposite Erich Gonzales.
As foreigners who found passionate support from Filipinos, Park and Maurer, currently Thailand's tourism ambassador, have been vocal about their love for the Philippines.
