MANILA, Philippines – It was a sad day for the NBA on Saturday, September 24, when it became official that after 21 years, former league MVP Kevin Garnett was calling it quits on his career.
Garnett, also a former NBA champion with the Boston Celtics in 2008, immediately received praise from his co-NBA players on social media following the report.
One of those who commended Garnett was actually a fierce rival in Kobe Bryant, who shared numerous battles with KG during the Celtics-Lakers rivalry of the late 2000’s and Minnesota-Los Angeles rivalry from the start of the century.
“I loved every minute I competed against you. A true warrior,” Bryant tweeted.
Like Garnett, Bryant also retired from the NBA after 20 seasons following last season. So did San Antonio Spurs legend Tim Duncan. The departure of the 3 future hall-of-famers essentially ends one of the best generations in league history.
