MANILA - The Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT) on Monday launched a 24/7 hotline service that gives its customers direct access to police chief, Director General Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa.
The "Text Bato" platform provides a text and internet connectivity service that allows citizens to report crime incidents and law enforcement concerns to the Philippine National Police (PNP), PLDT said in a statement.
Subscribers of PLDT subsidiary Smart Communications can send police concerns via text message by typing BATO (space), their message, then sending to 7444-2286.
A P1.00 fee will be charged for every SMS.

PLDT would also provide internet connectivity at the Text Bato Operations Center to give the PNP chief round-the-clock support in verifying text reports and mobilizing speedy response.
"Aside from enabling this service, we also pledge to support the PNP in protecting the privacy of participating subscribers and in ensuring the confidentiality of each message transmitted to the text hotline," PLDT and Smart spokesman Ramon Isberto said.
PLDT shares were up 0.66 percent to P1,819.00 on Monday.
