CEBU CITY - A man who stirred panic after claiming to have smuggled a bomb inside a supermarket here has been arrested, police said Tuesday.
Authorities are on alert after an explosion in Davao City two weeks ago left 14 people killed and 57 others wounded.
The suspect, 19-year-old Carl John Sacal, entered Sojo Mall with a friend in Sambag II district around 11 a.m. Monday and told security guards that he was carrying a bomb hidden inside a cylinder-shaped portable speaker, said police officer Lyndon Mercader.
After realizing that his claim had alarmed shoppers, Sacal told supermarket staff that he was talking about an earlier bomb hoax in the city.
Supermarket owners are considering charging the suspect in court.
