MANILA - China's President Xi Jinping on Sunday extended his sympathy to the victims of Friday's explosion in Davao City.
In a letter addressed to President Rodrigo Duterte, Xi said he was "shocked" about the news.
"Shocked to learn of the terrorist explosion incident in Davao City of the Philippines, I am writing to Your Excellency, on behalf of the Chinese Government and the Chinese people, and in my own name, to express my deep condolences to the deceased civilians and my heartfelt sympathy to the injured and the families of the victims," the Chinese leader said.
Xi, likewise, condemned the act of terrorism.
"China is firmly opposed to terrorism in all forms, and strongly condemn the violent terrorist acts targeting innocent civilians," Xi said.
"China stands ready to work together with the international community including the Philippines to jointly combat terrorism and to maintain the global and regional peace and stability," Xi added.
Fourteen people were killed, with at least 60 others injured, in an explosion that rocked Davao City Friday night.
