A NUMBER of senators opposed the plan of the House of Representatives to show the alleged sex video of Senator Leila de Lima on its inquiry into the illegal drug trade in the New Bilibid Prison (NBP).
Senate President Aquilino Pimentel III described the move as reckless.
"If they do some reckless action, they have to pay the political price," Pimentel said as he reminded them of the interparliamentary courtesy.
Pimentel urged fellow legislators to be sensitive to the feelings of others as he called for respect towards members of a co-equal body.
Senate President Pro Tempore Franklin Drilon said this is not a usual practice in Congress. He said he will talk to Pimentel so that the Senate leader can discuss the matter with House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez.
Senator Panfilo Lacson and Senator Antonio Trillanes IV were one in calling the move as foul.
For her part, de Lima said congressmen must review their law.
Playing a sex video in a congressional proceeding or before a court is against the law, de Lima said.
De Lima denied the insinuations that she had sexual relations with her former driver Ronnie Dayan and Bilibid inmate Jaybee Sebastian.
"They're making me appear that I am a sex worker. There is no truth about their allegations. It is all lies," De Lima said.
De Lima said she cannot understand what satisfaction these people are getting.
