MANILA -- Boxing coach Freddie Roach revealed plans to have Manny Pacquiao spar with Chinese Olympic star Zhou Shiming, who is also lined up in one of the undercard bouts for the Pacquiao-Jessie Vargas fight on November 5.
The sparring session, however, is meant to help Zhou prepare for Thai bruiser Kwanpichit Onesongchaigym.
Zhou will be taking on the Thai for the vacant WBO flyweight title and Roach wants his fighter to be fully prepared against Kwanpichit’s “dirty tactics.”
"[Kwanpichit] may look like Manny Pacquiao but he sure doesn't fight like him," Roach said in Boxing Scene. "He's dirty as hell.”
But Roach said he wants Zhou to cover all bases which is why they will be needing Pacquiao’s help. "I'll have Shiming spar with Manny when we get back from Manila so we're extra prepared," he said.
Zou first fought Kwanpichit in Macau in 2014 when he pummeled the Thai en route to a unanimous decision.
But Roach said the Thai resorted to underhanded tactics during the bout. "The last time we fought him, Prasitak was head-butting and landing low blows on Shiming throughout the fight," he said.
The Zhou-Kwanpichit fight will serve as the opener of the Pacquiao-Vargas undercard that will take place at the Thomas and Mack Centre.
Pacquiao, for his part, will challenge Vargas for the WBO welterweight crown.
